What is it?

Where clinical therapy
meets the healing power
of water

The RMT Hydro Scalp treatment is a uniquely integrated service — combining the clinical expertise of a Registered Massage Therapist with the restorative benefits of a hydro scalp and hair water treatment. It's built for people carrying real tension, not just looking to relax.

Your RMT targets the neck and shoulder musculature with therapeutic precision — addressing the muscles, fascia, and trigger points responsible for chronic stiffness, headaches, and upper body pain. This is followed by a full hydro scalp ritual that nourishes the hair and scalp with warm water, oil, and expert massage technique.

Registered Massage Therapist (RMT)

All therapeutic massage is performed by a licensed RMT. Sessions may be eligible for submission to extended health insurance plans. Ask us about direct billing at time of booking.

Why this treatment stands apart

Not a spa treatment.
Not just a massage.
Both — precisely combined.

01

RMT-level neck & shoulder work

Your therapist is a Registered Massage Therapist — not an esthetician. This means clinical assessment, evidence-informed technique, and real therapeutic outcomes for chronic tension and pain patterns.

02

Therapeutic hydro scalp ritual

Following the massage, a full hydro scalp treatment is applied — warm water, scalp oil, gentle kneading, and a cleansing hair wash — nourishing the scalp and hair from root to tip.

03

One seamless experience

The transition from clinical massage to water treatment is designed to feel effortless — you simply deepen into relaxation as the session evolves from therapeutic to restorative.

The session

Your treatment,
step by step

Intake & Assessment

Your RMT begins with a brief clinical intake — understanding your history of neck and shoulder tension, any injuries, posture patterns, or areas of acute pain. This shapes every decision made in the treatment that follows.

5–10 min
1
RMT Assessment

Your therapist uses clinical observation and palpation to identify active trigger points, fascial restrictions, and muscle imbalances — mapping the treatment before touching the table.

Shoulder & Upper Back Release

Deep tissue and trigger point therapy targets the trapezius, rhomboids, levator scapulae, and surrounding fascia — the primary muscles responsible for shoulder elevation, knots, and upper back heaviness.

15–20 min
2
Deep Tissue · Myofascial Release

Slow, sustained pressure and cross-fibre friction release the adhesions and hypertonicity that cause that chronic ache between the shoulder blades and across the upper back.

Neck Decompression

The cervical spine and surrounding musculature receive focused attention — mobilisation, traction-assist techniques, and targeted soft tissue work on the suboccipitals, SCM, scalenes, and posterior neck muscles.

15–20 min
3
Cervical Therapy · Trigger Point Release

Neck tension is often the source of headaches, jaw tension, and scalp tightness. This is where clinical RMT training makes a profound difference — the work is precise, purposeful, and effective.

Scalp Massage & Oil Treatment

The transition to the hydro scalp ritual begins here — with a therapeutic scalp massage using nourishing warm oil. Kneading, circular pressure, and lymphatic techniques stimulate the scalp and ease any remaining head tension.

10–15 min
4
Scalp Therapy · Hair Nourishment

Because your neck and scalp share muscular and fascial connections, this phase creates a beautiful continuity — the release moves upward from the shoulders into the skull as the oil soaks in.

Warm Water Hydro Treatment

Warm water is applied in a controlled cascade to the scalp and hair — opening follicles, rinsing the scalp treatment, and delivering the signature hydro sensory experience that defines this service.

10 min
5
Hydro Scalp · Water Cascade

The warm water experience deepens relaxation at a neurological level — the sound, the temperature, and the weight of water create a profoundly calming sensory state that completes the treatment.

Cleansing Wash & Finish

The treatment concludes with a full cleansing hair wash, conditioning rinse, and a gentle finish — leaving your hair clean, your scalp refreshed, and your neck and shoulders genuinely lighter than when you arrived.

10 min
6
Final Cleanse · Cool-down

Your therapist checks in with you post-treatment, provides aftercare guidance, and may recommend a follow-up frequency based on your presenting tension patterns and goals.

Why an RMT matters

Clinical skill.
Real outcomes.

  • Trained to assess, not just treat — your therapist identifies the root cause of tension, not just the symptom
  • Licensed and regulated by the College of Massage Therapists of Alberta
  • Eligible for extended health insurance reimbursement
  • Evidence-informed techniques — deep tissue, myofascial release, neuromuscular therapy
  • Ability to safely work with injuries, chronic conditions, and post-surgical clients
  • Treatments adapt to your presenting condition on the day, not a fixed routine

What your RMT treats

Targeted tension
at its source

  • Trapezius & Rhomboid Release

The primary drivers of upper back knots and the "heavy shoulders" feeling — treated with sustained deep tissue pressure and trigger point release.

  • Cervical Spine Muscles

The suboccipitals, SCM, and scalenes — responsible for neck stiffness, restricted rotation, and referred headache pain into the skull.

  • Suboccipital Region

The base of the skull — where tension headaches originate. Precise work here creates immediate relief that radiates into the scalp and behind the eyes.

  • Fascial Adhesions & Trigger Points

Myofascial release and ischemic compression dissolve the stubborn knots and restrictions that cause chronic discomfort and limit range of motion.

The hydro element

The water treatment
for hair & scalp

The second half of your session is dedicated entirely to the scalp and hair — a therapeutic water ritual that nourishes, cleanses, and restores from root to tip. Where the massage ends tension, the water begins restoration.

Scalp oil application

A warm, nourishing oil selected for your scalp type is applied and worked in with gentle circular massage — stimulating circulation and feeding the follicles as the oil penetrates.

Warm water cascade

A controlled, rhythmic warm water cascade runs over the scalp and through the hair — a sensory experience that completes the relaxation initiated by the massage and prepares the scalp for cleansing.

Scalp stimulation massage

During the water treatment, continued kneading and pressure techniques keep the scalp active — encouraging blood flow, loosening buildup, and maintaining the therapeutic momentum of the session.

Deep cleansing hair wash

A thorough shampoo removes all oil, product, and buildup — leaving the scalp clean and balanced. This is not a quick rinse; it's a deliberate part of the treatment.

Conditioning treatment

A conditioning rinse or mask is applied to the hair lengths — sealing the cuticle, restoring moisture, and leaving the hair soft, smooth, and visibly healthier.

Cool rinse & finish

The session closes with a cool water finish to seal the scalp and calm any heat — a final sensory contrast that leaves you feeling fully refreshed, clean, and renewed.

"The neck doesn't lie. Carry stress in your body long enough, and it shows up as pain, stiffness, and sleeplessness. This is where we begin undoing that."

Who benefits

This treatment is
made for you if…

Chronic neck pain

Long-term stiffness, limited rotation, or persistent aching that physiotherapy and stretching haven't fully resolved.

Desk workers & drivers

Extended hours in sustained posture — forward head, rounded shoulders, and the relentless tension that comes with it.

Tension headaches

Headaches originating from the base of the skull, temples, or behind the eyes — closely tied to neck and trapezius tension.

Scalp tightness & stress

A tight, tender scalp is often the upward extension of neck and shoulder holding patterns — directly addressed in this treatment.

Questions answered

Everything you
need to know

The core difference is who is performing it and what they're trained to do. A Registered Massage Therapist brings clinical assessment, anatomical knowledge, and therapeutic technique that goes far beyond relaxation massage. The neck and shoulder component is a genuine medical-grade treatment, not a light neck rub. The hydro scalp element that follows is equally thorough — this is a clinical-spa hybrid, not one or the other.
In most cases, yes. Because the treatment is performed by a Registered Massage Therapist, it is eligible for submission to extended health benefit plans that cover RMT services. The exact coverage depends on your individual plan. We provide an official RMT receipt for each session. Ask us about direct billing options when you book.
Yes — your RMT will take a full health history during intake and adapt every technique to your situation. Unlike standard spa treatments, your therapist is trained to work safely around injuries, post-surgical tissue, disc conditions, and neurological presentations. If you have concerns, please note them when booking and we'll match you with the most appropriate therapist.
Sessions are 60 or 90 minutes. The 60-minute session includes a focused neck and shoulder massage followed by the essential hydro scalp treatment. The 90-minute version extends both components — allowing for deeper muscle work and a more complete water ritual. You leave with your hair freshly washed and your upper body genuinely lighter. Most clients describe it as the most productive 90 minutes they've had in months.
For acute or chronic tension patterns, we typically recommend every 2–3 weeks initially to build therapeutic momentum. Once significant improvement is established, many clients shift to a monthly maintenance schedule. Your RMT will provide a personalized recommendation at the end of your first session based on what they find.
No preparation required. Come as you are — the treatment begins with an oil application and ends with a full hair wash and conditioning treatment, so your hair will be cleaner and better nourished than when you arrived. Avoiding heavy dry shampoo or styling product is helpful but not mandatory.
